Choice.

SilverLight was built on one belief: that fiber connectivity should be a community asset — not a landlord-tenant relationship between a single provider and your residents.

Who We Are

A Community Asset,
Not a Landlord.

Communities deserve infrastructure that is built to last, and the members of those communities deserve choice, that's where SilverLight comes in.

SilverLight Fiber was founded in 2023, and is backed by the technical expertise and operational experience of Silver Star Communications, a telecommunications company that has connected Wyoming and Idaho communities for more than a century.

SilverLight community members

SilverLight was created to simplify how critical broadband infrastructure is planned, built, and operated. We partner with developers, municipalities, utilities, and service providers to integrate our next-generation fiber infrastructure into the earliest stages of community development.

While these communities are in development, we co-design the fiber infrastructure alongside utilities, and any other critical pieces that make a community function correctly. In doing so, we help create neighborhoods that are connected from day one, eliminating any need for additional disruption for community members and preparing the community for decades of growth.

Today, SilverLight is helping shepherd in a new generation of connected communities where fiber is intentionally planned, thoughtfully integrated into the community plans, and built to support the people who will rely on it for years to come.

Open Access

What Is
Open Access?

For many years, traditional broadband networks have followed the same, simple model: a single company builds the network, owns the infrastructure, and is the only provider that offers service via that infrastructure. While common and familiar, that model can be limiting to both developers and consumers.

But what exactly is an open access broadband model? Unlike traditional networks controlled by one single provider, an open access model separates the physical fiber infrastructure from the internet services delivered through it. Multiple ISPs can operate on the same shared infrastructure, giving providers a lower barrier to entry and reducing the upfront capital required to serve the community.

For residents and businesses, this means more providers can compete on the same network, creating greater choice and flexibility to find the service that works best for them.

Traditional Model

One provider locked in. No competition. Residents inherit the decision — often for years.

vs

SilverLight Model

Up to 4 ISPs share one open network. Residents choose freely. Real competition, real value.

Residents choose. You stay hands-off.

A Helpful Comparison

The Airport Analogy

One way to think about how access networks work is to compare them to an airport.

An airport doesn't own the airlines or sell the airline tickets. What it does do is build and maintain the runways, manage the terminals and the gates, and coordinate logistics all to allow multiple airlines to operate safely and efficiently in that shared space.

As a traveler, you benefit because you choose the airline that offers the schedule, service, destination and price that works best for you — all while using the same airport. An open access network operates very similarly.

Much like an airport, SilverLight builds, owns, operates, and coordinates the fiber infrastructure that serves a community of people. We maintain the network, and internet service providers then use that shared infrastructure to deliver internet service directly to residents or businesses.

SilverLight doesn't sell internet service, we provide the platform that allows multiple providers to compete. The result of this method is more choice for residents.

Family in a fiber-ready community

Why Fiber

An Essential Utility,
A Lasting Advantage.

Just like any utility that's considered essential today — water, power, gas — high-speed internet has become critical for today's modern homebuyers and communities, making fiber an enduring investment in the marketability of a development.

Unlike those single-provider utilities, SilverLight isn't an ISP. We're a broadband infrastructure partner, building an open-access network where multiple providers compete for residents' business — with room for uses beyond internet. That competition and flexibility is what turns fiber from a basic utility into a lasting advantage for your development.

And unlike older broadband, fiber is built for the demands of today and tomorrow. Integrating it during construction lets developers skip costly retrofits, spare residents future disruption, and produce communities ready for what's next.

You wouldn't wait until the homes are built to figure out water or power. Fiber should be approached the same way.
